The scenery as we were driven through the natural park was lovely … it would have probably have been spectacular had it been a sunny day. Our guide, Frederico, was a most pleasant and informative guide with excellent English. The view from Christ Statue was amazing. We had a reasonably priced lunch in a restaurant with a lovely view of the sea. Overall, we would recommend the trip with Frederico.

Best day in Portugal!!!

We had an excellent experience with Frederico! We booked the evening before our tour and even though our street was shut down to traffic, he was there to meet us outside our hotel for the short walk to his car. He is very proficient in English and gave us the history of Portugal on our way to Almourol Castle. At the attractions, he not only guided us around but provided detail on what to expect, the story and history of each attraction and answered all of our questions. We felt by doing the private tour with Frederico, we got so much more from this experience than being part of a group or doing this on our own. He even researched a medieval restaurant in the area for us to go to for lunch for an authentic experience. We highly recommend booking a tour with Frederico, he is a wealth of knowledge and is very personable. Thank you again, Frederico, for a day we will never forget! It was certainly a highlight of our trip to Portugal.

A Perfect Day in Evora

Frederico went out of his way to make this a memorable day. He made great arrangements with pretty short notice. He provided recommendations for lunch and the choice we made was perfect. He was very knowledgeable about history and architecture. He was also very timely in communicating as we messaged back and forth to make the customized arrangements for our tour.

Walking castle walls in historic Obidos🕍

This place is absolutely beautiful, quaint and surprisingly intact.

Churches dating back to the 1600s, original stone ramparts, amazing panoramic views plus a shot of “ginjinha” make this a MUST-see!

Felt a little death-defying tip-toeing along the edges of the castle but I’ll be back for you, Obidos.✌🏾

Wonderful Tour of Sintra with Frederico

We had a wonderful tour to Sintra with Frederico. He was very willing to alter the tour to meet our needs and visit the palaces we preferred. He also included beautiful walking tours in the Sintra gardens. He was extremely knowledgeable and provided very helpful historical context. We loved every minute. The car was very comfortable and we appreciated the longer return along the coast to see the western most point in continental Europe. Great and comfortable tour.

If you enjoy the countryside and beautiful scenery, this trip is sure for you! The guide Frederico is flexible and makes excellent recommendation for the lunch place. My friend and I had a fantastic experience in Portugal. Highly recommended!

having read several Peninsular war histories I wanted to see Wellingtons defence lines, the Torres Vedras and get a real feel for the terrain and the the defences. This tour was excellent and informative for both myself and my wife.

Our guide, Frederico, spoke excellent English and very knowledgeable. We were collected from our Lisbon hotel, at the time notified, in very comfortable, clean and new model car. We could not have asked for more.

We visited several defensive sites on the defence line extending from Fort Vincent, near the town of Torres Vedras, westwards to the Atlantic coast.

Along the way we visited the 18th century Palace of Mafra where Frederico directed us to pleasant, reasonably priced, nearby cafes for a lunch of our choosing (cost not included in tour).

After reaching the Atlantic coast our final part of the tour was around the seaside town of Ericeira, once a small fishing village but now a top surfing venue and seaside resort; popular with both tourists and Lisboners. The charm of the old village and its various chapels is still retained as a central feature of the town.

We never felt hurried and Frederico gave us adequate time to explore, and answered our many questions thoroughly and politely.

Excellent guide,enthusiastic, attentive and fun.

Great itinerary! We get to know the history of Wellington’s defense lines and we also visit the grand Mafra Palace and beautiful Ericeira, which has beautiful landscapes. Frederico was an excellent guide, he loved explaining about Portuguese history and culture. He picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel in a very comfortable and spacious car. I loved it!

We spent a wonderful family day in Sintra in June 2023. Frederico is an excellent tour guide and he connected very well not just with us adults but also with our smaller kids. The children enjoyed very much his presence and his comfortable car and we appreciated every moment of the tour including the short break at Cabo da Roca, the nice walk in the beautiful garden of the Pena Palace and of course the visit of the Palace itself. Frederico has explained all relevant details in a way that was entertaining to all of us regardless of age. His attitude, his approach was so positive that we enjoyed the entire tour in spite of the rain that surprised us during the day. Highly recommended to all who would like to learn about Portugal’s natural heritage, it’s people and it’s past and present history.

A professional tour guide for a day in Portugal

Just returned from a wonderful day with Frederico at EpiTravels. Frederico met us at the hotel on time and we have a lovely day visiting Pena palace, the Moorish castles and other nearby features. There was an unannounced closure of the medieval site in Sintra, so Frederico adjusted quickly and we explored the western edge of the Country and stopped by some other sites (Belem Tower and Navigators Monument) to continue our day. He was very friendly, attentive to our needs and very knowledgeable of Portugals history.

A Superb Day in Setúbal, Sesimbra and Arrábida with EpiTravels

As he promised, Frederico, the founder and owner of EpiTravels was early and in the location we’d agreed on to pick us up. He offered us a bottled water and had plenty on hand for a long excursion. Frederico explained that he could customize the tour to our liking and cut certain parts shorter to accommodate more of what we wanted to see.

Our first stop was Setúbal and it was a treat! We visited the large central square, the hugh fish/farmer’s market and the waterfront. This part of the country is “real” Portugal. There were no throngs of tourists, just a beautiful city being itself with all its’ charm.

We then traveled to Sesimbra and stopped at several beautiful overlooks en route. In Sesimbra, Frederico let us off by the beach to minimize our walking while he parked the car. The town is quaint and cute and inviting. We had a delicious lunch of seafood and rice with a fabulous water view.

After lunch we headed to Arrábida, a huge and protected natural park, with several more scenic overlook stops and a visit to an ancient church (whose name I can’t remember 😉 perched high on a cape.

This area is famous for its’ wine and if time had permitted we would have enjoyed a wine tasting. Maybe next time.

I can’t emphasize enough how it will maximize your visit to Portugal to go with Frederico on this tour and others that he offers. It will be the best use of your money and time. He is a professional, well-versed in Portuguese history and an all around super guy.

Perfect Day – Great Experience

Thank you very much for our tour of Wellington’s Defense Lines of Torres Vedras.  You customized our tour (from picking us up in downtown Lisbon to returning us to our hotel) to exactly meet our schedule and interests .  Being able to visit and walk through three major forts, two visitor centers, an exceptional telegraph signal station as well as touring the countryside around the two lines, identifying additional points of interest including the HQ sites for Wellington and Beresford was quite an accomplishment. Nothing is better than seeing and walking the actual sites where history happened.  Your knowledge of the area, the Lines, the campaign and the battles greatly enhanced our experience.  The conclusion of the tour with a drive-by of the Mafra Palace, the coastal fort overlook and the city of Ericeira was perfect. We highly recommend you/EpiTravels to everyone.
